Can I call myself an email marketer without my own newsletter? Maybe. But I can’t try out all sorts of fun experiments and see what works as well on my client’s accounts, so we’re gonna give this a whirl.
Thanks for being here! I think this is where I’m supposed to tell you what you can expect by subscribing to my newsletter, but I’m not even sure what to expect myself.
I notoriously neglect my own website even though web design is one of the things I have a degree in. I am a chronically online elder millennial who still tries to use social media to be social, and I definitely comment way more than I post. I guess after a couple decades of managing websites and blogs, social media channels and email newsletters for clients, I got a bit busy and grew out of the habit of tooting my own horn once in a while.
So, this will certainly be a place where I share lessons learned from the trenches of event production and marketing in regulated industries, although my monetization options are slim if I mention a certain plant (I say with a massive eye roll at the stigma), so my blog is still where I speak on certain topics more freely.
Here’s a few more topics I’m eager to explore in my newsletters (off the top of my head), but in short, expect the unexpected. We’re living in some pretty unprecedented times and I can’t say I know what’s ahead, but I’ve got a lot to say about things like:
What it was like to be a part of that brief “transformational festival bubble” before Covid came in like a wreaking ball and many were lost down what I call the “woo-anon pipeline”…
The struggles of learning to advocate for myself in our absolute nightmare of a healthcare system. Can I just get a freakin’ diagnosis around here? Nah, best they can do is medical gaslighting… Pretty sure I know more about endometriosis than my ob-gyn now! So that’s fun.
And speaking of that, why the hell did I only start hearing about perimenopause as I approached 40, and only in hushed whispers? What the hell do we have to lose by sharing what we’re going through and helping each other through it?
What radicalized me… or rather, wtf didn’t. I mean, come on!?! gestures wildly at everything
How I stopped caring so much about Instagram constantly shutting down my work accounts and learned to go with the flow of platform inconsistency, discriminatory algorithms and inconsistent censorship. Kinda.
The real tea from behind the scenes in challenging industries that for some reason I seem to keep stubbornly choosing to work in.
Cool tidbits of feminist or leftist history that inspired me and that I really think should get more airtime, cuz we could really use some silver linings up in here.
Solidarity. Social justice. Mutual Aid. A hefty sprinkle of class consciousness. You know, the important stuff. I like to shout out good causes as often as I can.
And yes, I promise I’ll do more tooting my own horn. I’ll dig up some old blog posts, beef up that portfolio and share my recent work and insights from my latest projects here too.
What I’m not here to do is stay small or silent. Nope, been there, done that. I’m ready to Karen for a Cause, share some wild stories and maybe stir the pot a little bit, and then dance it out together.
No promises, plenty of surprises. I’m gonna do this regardless, so you might as well get a chuckle at my attempts along the way. You in? Let’s go!
