Not that our political climate has ever been great, but this year is a wild time to be an American. Democracy is not alright, fascism is here, and the rent is still way too damn high so we have to somehow still go to work and function?! It’s especially surreal trying to market anything right now, even stuff I’m excited about working on. It’s definitely enough to give me pretty much constant anxiety. 😥

So what can we do? The answer is not sticking our heads in the sand, but organizing and coming together. The government sure as hell isn’t doing their job or taking care of us, so it’s time we took care of each other. And to be able to do that, we first have to take care of ourselves. I posted some of the things I’ve been doing to attempt to stay productive and sane these days while also trying to show up for my community on LinkedIn last week, and I’d like to expand on that list here, as well as share the badass Revolution Soundtrack I’ve been working on!

Here are a few of the ways I’m scrambling to stay involved but still somewhat functional, cuz we gotta survive this system until we can instigate that revolution!

📲 Using the Resistbot texting service and 5Calls app to stay in touch with my representatives and harass them to take action. Constantly!

🐸 Finding inspiration in the little things, like those hilarious inflatable frogs and naked bike riders facing down ICE in Portland right now (Keep Portland Weird)!

🥑 Cooking more whole food meals at home, eating less crap & cutting waaaaay down on alcohol, sugar & snacks. Trying to make some healthy shifts to support regulating my nervous system.

💊 Upping my supplements game. I started adding some Everyday Dose 🍄‍🟫 to my morning cold brew & taking ashwaganda, magnesium, and CBG tincture and Boost gummies from EntheaCare. (Use my EveryDay Dose link for $5 off!)

👾 Trying to replace some of my doom scrolling time with silly mindless games like Words with Friends to keep the anxiety from spiking (not an easy one for me, but it beats trying to replace screen time completely).

🤝 Building community locally & supporting my friends & neighbors & local causes as much as possible. Mutual aid is so key! Any local friends want to come volunteer at Ceres Community Project in Sebastopol with me? I miss my community garden days & the one closest to me has a long wait list.

💃🏻 More dancing! Our local live music scene is popping and I love showing up to support my musician & dj friends. And occasionally going to the city for bigger acts. Music is LIFE. Also great community building. The next Subrosa event is October 24th in Santa Rosa, pop up dance party in the street! Sign up for the details from Stereoscopic.

🎉 Amplifying people doing good work, sharing factual information & news, and lifting up marginalized voices and causes who need our support now more than ever.

Staying up to date & getting more active in orgs like Working Families Party, Party For Socialism & Liberation and The 50501 Movement. The next No Kings protest is this Saturday the 18th!

I would love to hear what you’re doing to stay involved but sane, what orgs you’re supporting & your tips too. 💜 We’re in this together after all. And while you’re out there organizing and protesting, I’ve got the perfect playlist of revolutionary jams that I’ve been crowdsourcing lately. Thanks to all the friends on social media who helped me add to the Revolution Soundtrack (on Spotify, I know, not very revolutionary).

  • Stereoscopic’s Next Subrosa Popup Event: If you’re in Sonoma County, don’t miss the next Subrosa popup dance party featuring the Wolf Pack on Friday, October 24th. Check out the photo below for a taste: my partner Josh and his friend Randy have organized a few of these over the summer and they are FUN, free, all ages and a great way to blow off some steam. Sign up for the updates on Laylo.

  • Saturday’s NO KINGS Protest: Guess we gotta keep doing this shit since we still seem to have a senile dictator wannabe. I wanna see your protest sign! Mine says “Oligargle Deez Ovaries!”

  • My Stages of Grief Post: I truly felt it in my gut in 2016 the night I found out Trump was gonna be president, Roe v Wade was doomed and so was democracy. This post from January still sums up how I feel pretty well.

  • Jam Out with my Revolution Soundtrack: Bump this loud af, and let me know what tracks I need to add in the comments.

  • Support My Work: I’m committed, we’re past the one month free trial on beehiiv and this newsletter is for real for real. It’s a great platform if you’re looking to start your own newsletter (use my recommendation link). I will be coming up with some fun perks for my Paid Subscribers like marketing templates, checklists & guides. I’d love to hear your ideas, too - what would get you to put $5 on it and Upgrade to Paid?

Our first Subrosa event in June was a hit - and it popped off right in the middle of the mall!
